Willis James Reynolds, age 92, resident of Uniontown, died Friday evening, October 16, 2009, in the Mercy Health Center Emergency Room.

He was born November 23, 1916, in Uniontown, the son of Fred J. Reynolds and Lula Lucetta Love Reynolds.

He married Evelyn Lucile Mumbower on August 17, 1940.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Willis served during WWII on the SS Sea Devil as an armed guard. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star. Returning home, he was self employed as a truck driver. In 1960, he was employed by USD 235 as a custodian and he retired in July 1984. Willis was a member of the Dry Ridge Baptist Church. He loved gardening and outside work.

Survivors include his wife, Lucile, of the home; one son, Jim Reynolds, Uniontown; and a sister, June Gates and husband Marvin, Wichita. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Calvin Reynolds, and a sister, Dorothy Chambers.

Rev. Marty DeWitt will conduct funeral services at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, October 22, 2009, at the Uniontown Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Uniontown Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Memorials are suggested to the Uniontown Missionary Baptist Church or Mercy Home Health Care, and may be sent to the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, Kansas.
