Short-handed Uniontown volleyball has tough time at Central Heights

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

RICHMOND -- Uniontown High School's volleyball team had to make adjustments as players battled the flu and went 2-3 at the Central Heights Tournament against mostly bigger schools.

"We had a day of constant adjustments on the court," Eagle head coach Jackie Hall said. "We had Abbie (Smith) out with the flu, so we were running lineups we had not worked on. But the team responded well and we did our best."

The Eagles lost to Class 4A Osawatomie in the first match, 25-18, 25-21. Jacy Ermel had 9 kills.

Next, the Eagles defeated Topeka Cair Paravel, 25-8, 25-9. Ermel had 6 kills while Jessie Camac had 4.

Class 4A Girard, one of the best bigger schools in southeast Kansas, dealt Uniontown a 25-17, 25-19 loss. Ermel had 9 kills in that match.

Next, the Eagles swept Erie, 25-18, 25-14. Ermel had 9 kills and Camac had 6.

Olathe Metro Academy won the final match, 25-15, 23-25, 26-24. Ermel recorded 10 kills for the Eagles.
