She was born July 10, 1930, in May, Mo., the daughter of Merritt G. Swaim and Ethel Carl Swaim.
Virginia was a 1948 graduate of Fort Scott High School.
She married Fredrick William Phillips on May 9, 1949, in Bentonville, Ark.
Virginia worked as an underwriter for fourteen years for the Western Insurance Company in Fort Scott and babysat children in her home for 30 years.
She was a member of the 20th Street Christian Church in Joplin.
Survivors include her husband Fred, of the home in Joplin; two sons, Fredrick Eugene Phillips and Michael Lynn Phillips, both of Neosho, Mo.; and two sisters, Irma Maycumber, Hot Springs Village, Ark., and Eunice Burcham, Grove, Okla.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, Stacy Burkhart, Kristin Scultz, Katlyn Phillips, Damon Phillips; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Norma L. Johnson and two brothers, Victor E. Swaim and Garold Wayne Swaim.
Rev. Virgil Eubanks and Rev. R. B. Shoemaker will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m., Saturday in the Cheney Witt Chapel.
Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m., Saturday until service time at the funeral home.
