Simpson 4th at home tourney

Emily Simpson finished in fourth place as Uniontown hosted an 18-hole tournament at the Fort Scott Country Club golf course Monday.

Simpson shot 56 on the front nine then scored 51 on the back to post a total of 107.

"Emily did a great job of stepping up and playing well," Uniontown head coach Jason Tourtillott said, explaining that No. 1 golfer Bethany Ericson was unable to play due to illness and Simpson, the No. 2 golfer, was able to elevate her game.

"Over the past few weeks, (Simpson) has gotten better and better, beating her personal best scores," Tourtillott added.

Veronica Harrison finished 14th for the Eagles with her score of 62-67--129. Brooke Murrow was next, tying for 20th at 71-67--130. Sabrena McAnulty (75-79) and Raven Hixon (72-82) each finished with scores of 154.

"Veronica shaved about 7 or 8 strokes off her score as well," Tourtillott said. "Brooke has also improved in each of the last three meets.

"It's great to see improvement and the girl's excitement when they know they are getting better. we have a long way to go but we're young."

The individual champion was Tres Short of Fredonia (48-51) who won a scorecard playoff with teammate Melisa Ashenfelter (49-50) and Eureka's Brittany Shaw (48-51) at 99. The team champion was Fredonia at 443 as the Yellojackets had three of the top five individual scores.

Uniontown's next meet is Monday at Pomona-West Franklin.
