PARSONS -- Fort Scott High School's junior varsity tennis team finished fourth in a seven-team bracketed tournament here Monday, finishing its season on a pretty high note.
The Tigers finished with the same number of team points as Coffeyville, 10, but were dropped one spot because they had to leave one slot open to keep players from going over the number of competition days limited by state rule.
Corina Harrison and Bailee Hall finished second in No. 1 doubles. They beat Sam Fletcher/Jessica Nickelson of Parsons, 6-0, and Kacee Sinclair/Jessica Curlee of Pittsburg, 6-4. They lost to Independence's Ashlyn Conner/Erin Wesselowski, 6-2.
Krista Hightower and Aubin Duff also went 2-1, playing No. 2 singles, finishing third. They beat Abby St. Clair/Katana Smith of Iola, 6-5 (7-0), lost to Indy's Taylor Murdock/Caitira Kahler, 6-2, then beat Tiffany Dillow/Whitney Barnhardt of Chanute, 6-4, for third place.
Kelsie How was 0-2 in No. 2 singles. She lost to Robyn Brummett of Pittsburg, 6-0, and Alexis Ethridge of Chanute, 6-0.
"These girls have improved a lot since the beginning of the season," Fort Scott head coach Lynn Barr said. "They competed well and played some good tennis at times today. Both doubles teams did a nice job. They each have things to improve on, but are doing more things right all the time. This was a good way to end our JV season."
