Local girl gives back on her birthday

For most kids, birthdays mean getting. But this year, 8-year-old Kate Burch made her birthday about giving. The Benton Elementary second grader asked all of her friends and relatives to give money instead of gifts, which she would then donate to VCPFP. She collected a total of $95.85 and is shown here gifting that money to Fido, the mascot for Vernon County People for Pets. Way to go Kate!
