Sylvia Anetta Farmer, age 91, formerly of 23 N. Margrave, Fort Scott, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at Fort Scott Medicalodge.

She was born Aug. 28, 1918, in Lockwood, Mo., the daughter of Robert Steeley and Delia York Steeley.

Sylvia was a 1937 graduate of Fort Scott High School.

She married Richard E. Farmer on July 26, 1953, in Osawatomie, Kan. He preceded her in death on March 10, 2004.

She was retired as a floor and office manager for Edminston's Department Store and worked for as an insurance coder for Western Insurance Company. Sylvia was a member of the Community of Christ Church, the Mercy Auxiliary, and was reunion chair person for her 1937 high school class.

She loved to read and loved gardening. Her biggest joy was spending time with family.

Survivors include one son, Rick Farmer and wife Kim, Owasso, Okla.; three daughters, Gloria Shankel and husband Curtis, and Shelly Fleeman and husband Gene, all of Fort Scott, and Charlotte Troth and husband Don, Topeka, Kan.

Also surviving is a sister, Mildred Burns, Lansing, Kan.; daughter-in-law, Martha O'Dell Hickey, Warren, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Ron O'Dell; two brothers, Charles Steeley and Cecil Steeley, and one sister, Gladys A. Englert.

Elders Robert and Kathy Clark will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Community of Christ Church, 1623 S. Eddy.

Burial will follow in U. S. National Cemetery under the direction of Cheney Witt Chapel.
