Over 60s Dinner Club provides dining adventures

The Presbyterian Village has developed a new way for senior citizens to participate in culinary adventures.

The Over 60s Dinner Club was created for citizens over age 65 who like to sample foods that are a little out of the ordinary, according to Presbyterian Village Executive Director Ginger Dierksen.

"We invite singles and couples in the Fort Scott area to join us in exploring different types of cuisine," Dierksen said. "The goal is to relax, meet new people and, of course, enjoy great food that you might not have had the opportunity to try."

The group will meet at 5 p.m. Sept. 22 in the Village Community Room, located at 2401 S. Horton St., where an experienced cook from El Salvador will prepare and serve authentic Latin foods such as "pupusas" (a popular food similar to a thick corn tortilla stuffed with cheese, cole slaw, meats, or other delicious fillings). Salsa music will add to the atmosphere.

"We had a great evening together at our first dinner in July, when diners tried many seafood varieties including Mahi Mahi and shark coupled with Caribbean side dishes," Dierksen said. "We're going to have a different taste experience at every dinner, and the club will meet every other month."

The cost for the event is $10 per person, and reservations are required by Sept. 15. Reservations can be made by calling (620) 223-5550 or sending an e-mail to gdierksen@pmma.org. Seating is limited.
