IOLA, Kan. -- Fort Scott High School's volleyball team is on a five-match winning streak after sweeping Prairie View and Iola in a non-league triangular here Thursday night.
The Tigers (5-2) defeated Prairie View in three games, 25-23, 20-25, 28-26. Then they downed Southeast Kansas League rival Iola, 25-22, 25-22.
"Against both teams, we had moments of brilliance and then we would struggle for four or five points with serve receive or hitting consistently," Fort Scott head coach Carol Bingesser said. "Both Prairie View and Iola were good teams. We just need to finish stronger. Once we get a lead, we need to take care of business and finish it."
In the Prairie View match, Jenna Campbell served 5 aces, Kori Allen 3 and Sammi Therwhanger 2. Therwhanger led with 5 kills followed by Mallory Shelton with 3 and Campbell and Megan McDermed with 3 each.
In the Iola match, Shelton had 4 kills while Marliss Allen served 5 aces and Therwhanger 2.
The next action for the Tiger varsity is Sept. 12 at a quadrangular in Erie with Parsons and Southeast-Cherokee also attending.
