Officers arrested Kevin Simons, a 44-year-old truck driver from West Moreland, Tenn., for the stabbing of Timothy Bassett shortly after 1:30 a.m. Saturday. FSPD Lt. Shaun West said officers took Simons into custody for aggravated battery.
West said there was a disturbance going on inside Rusty's which progressed throughout the evening. He said the disturbance evolved into a physical altercation outside Rusty's, where the stabbing occurred. According to Bourbon County Court documents, a knife was used in the incident.
West said the FSPD is continuing an investigation into the incident and that there may have been more than one victim or suspect.
"The case is still ongoing and involves multiple persons," West said. "We haven't ruled out any other suspects or victims in the incident."
According to West, Bassett was transported and treated at Mercy Health Center and was later released.
Felony charges of aggravated battery were filed against Simons on Monday through the Bourbon County Attorney's Office. If convicted, Simons could face a level four person felony which comes with a maximum sentence of 172 months in prison or a level seven person felony which comes with a maximum sentence of 34 months.

can't we all just get along?
This person was at the Fort Scott Inn Bar from 7:00 pm until 12:00 midnight so I am confused how this could of been building all evening? They were not at Rustys till after midnight. I am sure that Tim was not at The Fort Scott Inn bar as well. I am witness to the fact that these two parties could not have even met until after midnight.
Wow noshoesnoservice, that's a bit f'd up. However, I am a woman. Still nobody deserves to be treated this way. Unless....nah...still don't.

King is in the hizhouse!!!!
Chiripada, you are very correct! Lt. West was apparently misinformed. There was never any "disturbance" inside of Rusty's. The problem did not occur until after last call and everyone was leaving. Even at that point, when a problem did arise, it was outside of the establishment. Tim may be a pain in the *** at times, and he tends to put himself in situations that he rightfully does not belong, but he did not deserve to get stabbed. On the other hand, the other guy didn't deserve to get beaten and kicked severly. It's a bar, there was liquor...people are bound to fight. There's nothing anyone can do about that.
mario03, thank you for the clarification on this. I to do not think anyone deserves to be stabbed nor be kicked or beaten. I do though believe in the judicial system. I hope that whether this was a case of self defense or not the police get their facts strait before they make any formal charges. I hope that the truth comes out and that justice is served in this case, what ever that may be.
It is a complete tragedy when a news publication prints half of the facts which misleads the public to believe an out of town visitor is the cause of this mess. Word on the street is there were several motorcyclist who rode all the way from Tennessee to participate in the Trikes for Tots Charity event. Word on the street also is two of these motorcyclists were jumped by a group of people who have been giving this town trouble for quite some time. It sounds a lot more like self defense rather than what the city is charging this man for. Word on the street is there are some pretty serious injuries to the men that were attacked by this crowd of local trouble makers. These accusations may affect these two mens lives drastically! Is Fort Scott really going to continue to allow this to happen? Until all facts are revealed in the Tribune I believe I will go with the word on the street. I hope this city puts a stop to these local trouble makers. SOON!
Noshoesnoservice, you have no idea what you are talking about. First of all, the "Rusty's" parking lot that you say he should do something about is city owned. Talk to your local officials about that. The only thing that Rusty owns is the building. Also, there are camera's inside the bar. 5 to be exact. It would be very hard to make sure that no weapons were ever brought into a bar. The rule can be made but that doesn't mean it will be followed. Besides, who's to say this person didn't get the knife once they were already outside. It isn't Rusty's fault or the staff's fault. Also, there aren't too many fights that get out of hand. Yes, fights happen. Mostly in the city owned parking lot. My_2_sense, you are so right about word on the street.
noshoesnoservice = nobrain2think
noshoesnoservice, I am not denying the fact that they have fights...and for the record, Mayberry's isn't even open anymore. There are fights in the parking lot behind Rusty's. Again, if you have a problem with that, take it up with your local authority.
LOL, and I don't own a scanner because they are so misleading and PEOPLE get misinformed. Then they THINK they know what's going on.
Banning guns & knives in a bar is a great idea. Doubt that people will pay much attention to the rule though. They seem to ignore the "rules" (laws) dealing with assaulting someone in a parking lot, driving under the influence and other simple rules like that. Mix alcohol with weapons with people who don't have the sense to leave either alone and you've got a mess.
