Eagles split home triangular

Thursday, September 3, 2009

UNIONTOWN -- Uniontown's volleyball team split a triangular with Crawford-Neosho-Cherokee League schools here Tuesday night, sweeping Erie and falling to Girard in three games.

The Eagles (6-1) whipped Erie, 25-3, 25-13. Abbie Smith converted 10 of 13 chances in attack and had 8 kills. Jessie Camac was 7 of 7 in attack and picked up 2 kills.

Girard beat Erie in the middle match, 25-6, 25-9.

The Eagles won the first game against Girard, 28-26. But the Trojans, the defending CNC champs and a Class 4A State qualifier last year, won the last two games, 25-20, 25-13.

"The Girard match was, well, what can I say, awesome," Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall said. "Girard has a great program and team and we stayed with them. We attacked the ball well but they played great defense.

"We took them out of their game plan a bit as their hitters started tipping on us. And that was something we did not adjust to very well."

Jacy Ermel was 30 of 34 in attack against Girard and had 8 kills. Smith was 19 of 24 with 11 kills.

In junior varsity play, Uniontown beat Erie, 25-6, 25-15, but lost to Girard, 25-7, 25,21. Ashley Nietfeld had 4 kills for the Eagles in each match.

Uniontown is idle until Sept. 10 when they begin Three Rivers League play at Altoona-Midway. Oswego will also be there.
