Members of the Wood family will join local musician Jennie Wood, a pianist and violinist, to perform a concert at 7 p.m. Friday at the Heritage Park Pavilion near the corner of First and Main streets. Members of the band will perform several solo, group and instrumental numbers.
Byrne Wood, a former music teacher at Fort Scott High School and Fort Scott Community College, will sing at the concert. His daughter, Anita (Wood) Hoffhines will perform on the flute. Byrne will also combine his talent with his three nephews to form a male acapella quartet.
Loreta (Wood) Jent, a Fort Scott native from Bloomington, Ill., will sing the song "Four Days Late."
Other members of the group include Jennie's husband, Ken, and the couple's daughter, Suella, and son, Stan Wood, a saxophonist; daughters Joy (Wood) Parke, a pianist and vocalist, and Melody (Wood) Richardson, a pianist. Joy and Melody will share the stage with their husbands, Phil Parke and Lonnie Richardson and several of their children.
The concert is part of the weekly Friday night summer concert series that is sponsored by the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce Downtown Division. Attendees should remember to bring their own lawn chairs as seating is not provided at the event.
