John Paul Morrill, age 77, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home, Friday, June 19, 2009, in Laguna Niguel, California. He was born July 16, 1931, in South Gate, California, to the late Paul and Margaret Morrill.
John attended UCLA on a baseball scholarship and later went on to play professional baseball as a pitcher with the Cleveland Indians. He graduated from Long Beach State University majoring in physical education and business. John enjoyed a successful career as a metal broker in the aluminum industry for over thirty years, but was happiest when surrounded by family and close friends.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Morrill, of the home in Laguna Nigel, California; sons, Michael Morrill and wife, Valerie, Corona del Mar, California, John J. Morrill, Athol, Indiana, and Darren Morrill, San Juan Capistrano, California; step-children, Scott Sauer and wife, Kelly, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Mark Sauer, Palm Springs, California. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Marissa, Connor, and Alexandra Morrill, and step-grandchildren, Joel, Isaac, and Levi Sauer. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Shawna Morrill.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kansas. Family and friends will meet at the Cheney Witt Chapel at 1:00 P.M. prior to leaving for the cemetery at 1:45 P.M. Services are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kansas.
