According to Kathy Dancer of the SYAF organization, the meeting was scheduled to discuss the possible spay and neuter program as well as a feral cat program. She added, some Fort Scott city staff were in attendance to discuss a possible solution to build a new animal shelter.
Dancer said the city has proposed the idea of building up the current location and building a new facility in the current location. Fort Scott City Manager Joe Turner said the building up process would include building the ground higher to raise the shelter out of the flood plain.
Both Dancer and Turner said the idea was not discussed much at the meeting and no plans have been made yet. Dancer added that SYAF has offered to pay the $5,000 to have the Humane Society of America visit the current facility and evaluate its condition.
According to Dancer, SYAF is looking at possible locations in Bourbon County, outside Fort Scott.

Keep up the good work Kathy. The way the city looks at the helpless animals and people in this area is appalling.
I believe if Joe Turner thinks so highly of that location then maybe we should build the city hall down there. Of course we could build the ground higher to raise the shelter out of the flood plain.
What a horrible idea to raise the ground higher and then rebuild in the same location.
I hope Mr. Turner has better ideas for the city, and I'm not just talking about the animal shelter.
