"Once Upon a Mattress," the college's first theatre performance in the Danny and Willa Ellis Family Fine Arts Center, took place May 1-3 and brought in $5,000 for the FSCC Theatre Department. That total includes $2,500 matched by the Modern Woodmen home office through the organization's Matching Fund program. The money will be used for needed tools for the theatre department including a sewing machine, jigsaw, tool chest, plywood, and mic stand, an FSCC statement said.
The Matching Fund program offers Modern Woodmen camp members nationwide a chance to show their support for a community cause, organization or individual in need by partnering with community organizations and conducting fundraisers. Modern Woodmen matches money raised up to $2,500. These fundraising projects contribute more than $6 million to community needs nationwide each year, the FSCC statement said.
Founded in 1883 as a fraternal benefit society, Modern Woodmen of America offers financial services and fraternal member benefits to individuals and families throughout the United States. The organization's Fort Scott camp provides a number of volunteer service and social activities for local members.
