'Hounds unable to reach CNFR final

Monday, June 22, 2009
CASPER, Wyo. -- The two representatives of Fort Scott Community College's rodeo team were unable to reach the finals in their events at the College National Finals Rodeo.

Bareback rider James Bond still had a chance to reach the finals going into Friday's third short-go although it was a long shot. However, he was unable to stay on long enough to receive a score and finished his three short-gos with a total of 80 points, which ranked him 31st among all riders.

R.C. Landinghouse of Blue Mountain College (Ore.) held a one-point lead over Steven Peebles of Western Wyoming going into Saturday's final. Peebles scored 82.5 points on his ride to finish with 315 total points, assuming the lead.

Landinghouse then scored 83.5 points on his ride and ended up winning the championship by one point with 316 total points.

Fort Scott bull rider Carrson Hiatt did not score on any of his three gos and finished tied for 22nd place. Chad German of Hill College (Texas) won the championship in Saturday's finals.

German was the only rider to score in each of the three short gos and the finals. He had enough of an advantage going in that even after Andrew Coughlin of South Dakota State scored the most points in the finals, 84, German still won the event by 69 1/2 points.

German, who had a 74.5 score in the finals, finished with 292.5 points followed by Coughlin with 223. Coughlin's score was hurt by the fact that he had no score in his first go. Justin Thomas of Laramie County (Wyo.) was the only other rider to score in the finals (75.5) and finished third overall with 218 points.
