Douglas L. Thompson, age 78, a resident of Fort Scott, Kansas, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at his home. He was born May 28, 1931, in Fort Scott, Kansas, the son of Levi Albert Thompson and Elnora Josephine Lewis Thompson. He married Patty Feagins on May 28, 1953, at Nevada, Missouri. Doug worked for many years as a self-employed roofing contractor. Doug was a veteran and had served with the United States Army. He was a member of the Community of Christ Church. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, as well as reading.

Survivors include his wife, Patty, of the home; a son, Justin Thompson, Canyon City, Colorado; three daughters, Natasha Harper and husband, Jason, Bronson, Kansas, Donna Thompson, Canyon City, Colorado, and Sheila Thompson, Pittsburg, Kansas; a brother, Levi Thompson, and wife, Barbara, Wrightwood, California; two sisters, Margorie Lawhead, Canyon City, Colorado and Julie Elbrader and husband, Robert, Fort Scott; and five grandchildren, Fayth, Evan, Kaitlyn, Hannah and Bill. Also surviving are two cousins, Jane Burns and June Bloomfield, both of Fort Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, George Thompson and a sister, Mary Brown.

Elder Earl Severy will conduct funeral services at 1:30 P.M. Friday, June 19, 2009, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the U. S. National Cemetery where Military Honors will be provided by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post #1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Hospice Care of Kansas and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Ft. Scott, KS 66701.
