Arthur Leon Bailey, 80, of Fort Scott, died Friday morning at his home. He was born June 21, 1928, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Cliff and Susie Mae (Endicott) Bailey. He married Rose Mary Clyburn Dec. 18, 1949, in Garland, Kan. She survives of the home.
Arthur graduated from Fort Scott High School, and then from Pittsburg State University. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, and then went into the Marine Corps Reserve. He then joined the U.S. Army National Guard, and retired as a Captain in 1967. Memberships include Order of the Easten Star No. 325 in Garland, the Memphis lodge No. 108 for 60 years, the Mirza Shrine, and a Life Member of the Fort Scott Scottish Rite. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW. He worked for the Western Insurance Co. as an insurance claims supervisor for 27 years, and was past president of Kansas Claims Association.
In addition to his wife Rose Mary, he is survived by a son; Larry D. Bailey and his wife Bonnie, of Nevada, a daughter; Debra S. Holt and her husband Randall ,of Fort Scott; six grandchildren, Justin Bailey and wife Amanda, of Fort Scott, Jeremy Bailey, of Platte City, Mo., Ryan Bailey and wife Valerie, also of Platte City, Clint Holt, Ross Holt, both of Fort Scott, and Haley Holt of Austin, Texas; and three great-grandchildren; Dakota Bailey, of Fort Scott, Myla Bailey of Platte City, and Madison Brothers, of Cherryvale, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, June 1, at the U.S. National Cemetery, in Fort Scott. The Olson-Frary-Burkhart Post No. 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Detail will provide military honors at the cemetery. The family will receive friends 7--8 p.m., Sunday, May 31, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.
