Ralph will be preaching in his home church in Arcadia on Mother's Day while Pastor David Peterson enjoys visiting his Mother, Twonette and Bill Skidmore and grandmother Bonnie Epley in Wichita.
Galen and Jodie Dunn are now back in the USA after a short time visiting their pastorate and school in the Philippines. On August 8, there will be a Dunn Family reunion at Chicken Marys. The Sunday following, August 9, Galen and Jodie will be at the Open Door Church. They hope to meet many of his school friends and neighbors the few days they will be house guests of Don and Lea Schaub in Arcadia.
Felix Shular, Arcadia, Kansas was recently inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame by a commission representing the United States Bowling Association. Mr. Shular is 91 years of age and has been president of a sanctioned bowling league for 26 years. He and his sister Rose Campbell continue to bowl in three different leagues at the Holiday Lanes in Pittsburg. He graduated from AHS in 1935. Rose is also an AHS graduate and received her degree in Home Economics from Pitt State then returned to AHS as the Home Ec teacher. Congratulations to both Felix & Rose.
Another graduate of AHS is Marie Rodich who recently was declared the March Resident of the Month in the Arma Care Center, Arma. As a school teacher, she was known as the one who trained many students who won the spelling bees for many years.
Kevin Murphy, Arcadia, was chosen as the 4-State Hero on KOAM-TV, Friday evening, April 30, 2009, during the 6 p.m. newscast.
Thursday of last week athletes attending Pittsburg State University were cited for their academics by the Commerce Bank. Among the 18 honored for cumalative grade point average higher than 3.2 was Ali Shaffer, Track & Field of Arma. Her parents are Kevin & Kathy Shaffer. She is known in Arcadia as our Postmaster. We congtatulate the whole family. Each athlete was presented a framed picture of a gorilla and other items.
On Friday, April 10, eight members of Christians on Campus in Fort Scott Community College traveled with sponors, Larry and Vickie Shead to Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla. Friday morning they toured the Campus, had dinner in Cafeteria, making friends with the students. This is an annual event for the FSCC organization.
Arcadia Council will meet at 7 p.m. May 12 in City Hall. Kids Night in Community Center will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 16. Adults are welcome.
The City Wide Clean-Up in Arcadia will be held May 18-29. The following will not be picked up: Burn piles nor barrels, roofing materials, household trash, Only bagged leaves, limbs eight feet or shorter and stacked close to curb will be hauled away.
The AHS Alumni Banquet will be held May 23, at the Lamplighter Inn in Pittsburg. Reservations are required.
Cato meets in Arcadia Community Center May 26.
Guests in Arcadia Christian Church Sunday for JOY Class, Morning worship and Chuch dinner, with her Grandmother Lorene Gibson and brother Clay Carrington were Rhonda Brown and little son Malaki from Girard.
