Join Hands Day an opportunity to help

Local residents are being asked to help volunteer on Join Hands Day.

The project will take place on Join Hands Day, May 2 and will include picking up trash at Gunn Park and holding a laundry detergent drive for Mother to Mother. The work will being at 9 a.m. at Gunn Park's first Shelter House.

Join Hands Day is a national campaign designed to bring youth and adults together to plan and implement volunteer service projects in their communities. A goal of the campaign is to get the youth and adults to learn more about each other and build a new level of understanding and respect. The event is sponsored by Modern Woodmen of America.

"As a community-minded organization, Modern Woodmen has a proud history of sponsoring Join Hands Day," Modern Woodmen of America Fraternal Director Steve VanSpeybroeck said. "We're inviting and encouraging other community organizations to join with us to make a difference."

Adina Findley, project coordinator added, "On Join Hands Day, we want to improve the quality of life in our area. By connecting with others in the community, we can make an even greater impact."
