Friday, April 17, 2009

Fort Scott Community College's baseball team swept a Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division doubleheader from Labette at Lions Field Thursday, winning game one 7-0 and taking the nightcap, 16-5.

The Greyhounds also split a division doubleheader with Neosho County at Lions Field Wednesday afternoon.

Fort Scott improved to 15-13 in the conference with the sweep of Labette and is 22-20 overall. It's the first time the 'Hounds have been over .500 after a doubleheader since April 8, when they split with Labette at Parsons.

The top four teams in each division will host a first-round Region VI Tournament playoff series. The Greyhounds are currently one game behind Allen County (15-11, 23-15) for fourth place. Fort Scott will face the Red Devils in Iola Saturday.

Thursday: Fort Scott 17-15, Labette 0-5.

Zach Juliano hurled a complete-game three-hitter in the opener. He walked four batters and struck out eight while facing only 26 batters, five over the minimum for seven innings.

The 'Hounds bashed out nine hits with two apiece coming from the bats of Adam Johnston and John Leek, each of whom also drove in three runs. Leek also cranked out a home run.

The 'Hounds scored six of their runs in the second inning.
