Uniontown girls win Oswego meet

OSWEGO -- Uniontown's girls scored 132 points and won their season-opening meet here Tuesday while Eagle boys finished third behind Wyandotte (Okla.) and Chetopa.

"We scored points in all the events we entered," Unionown head coach Jackie Hall said. "Coach Law and myself are very pleased with the outcome. We know we can just get better and better."

Uniontown's girls won seven events led by three of double winners. Kait Spainhoward set a school record in winning shot put with a mark of 32 feet, 5 1/2 inches. She also won discus with a mark of 92' 2 1/2" and placed second in javelin.

Abbie Smith won the long jump at 15' 8" and the 100-meter high hurdles in 17.78 seconds. She also claimed second in the 300 lows in 54.42.

Emily Aikins won the 100 meters in 13.86 seconds and also took the 200 meters, although her time was not reported. Aikins also finished second in long jump and third in shot put.

Jacy Ermel won javelin with a mark of 81' 7", took third in discus and fourth in the 400-meter run.

Jessica Schaaf placed second in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs. Kelsey Mathis was fourth in the 200 meters and fifth in the 400.

In boys' events, Colt Bartlett was a double winner while Ben Dixon won three events.

Dixon took the 100 meters in 11.71, the 200 in 24.42 and triple jump at 37' 6 3/4". He was also second in long jump.

Bartlett won the shot at 39' 10" and discus at 113' 3". He was also second in javelin.

David Shank won javelin with a mark of 143' 3" and finished second in shot and discus.

Barry McAnulty took fifth place in the javelin. He was also the lead-off of the co-ed thrower's relay that took third. Bartlett, Spainhoward and Shank were also on that team. Medals were awarded but no points went toward team totals.

The Eagle season continues today at Frontenac.
