Mercy sponsors FSCC baseball doubleheader

The Fort Scott Community College baseball team has found a teammate in Mercy Rehab and Mercy Health for Life. Saturday, both Mercy services will be the co-sponsors of the Greyhounds doubleheader against Allen County Community College, which begins at 1 p.m. at Lions Field.

As sponsors for the game there will be free hot dogs, a seventh-inning stretch by Mercy Health for Life staff, sunscreen donated by Mercy Physicians Group, frisbees, giveaways for foul balls, and door prizes.

Former Mercy Rehab and Mercy Health for Life patient Bob Sager will throw out the first pitch at Saturday's game. Sager is a former Mercy Health Center patient and Rehab Center outpatient for Guillian-Barre Syndrome. Guillain-Barre Syndrome is a neurological disorder that paralyses a person's body quickly. Sager became afflicted with the illness in his 50's at a time when he was living a very active lifestyle. During Sager's six months of recovery he became an inspiration to patients and workers alike at Mercy Health for Life.

FSCC head baseball coach John Hill III appreciates the support and said, "The Fort Scott Community College baseball program is very excited about Mercy Rehabilitation Services being our charter member of our corporate sponsor Homerun Club. They have been paramount to our success this year in our fundraising efforts and we are excited to be able to give back to them with the sponsorship of our home doubleheader with Allen County Community College.

"We are making an extended effort to establish win-win relationships with local businesses and we hope for a long standing relationship with Mercy Rehab and Mercy Health for Life as we are very grateful for their support of our program."
