Patty brought an interesting picture of an old building here in town. In more recent years, Dr. Hinkle had a dentist office upstairs and there were several grocery stores including McKays, Elliots, and others. Above one of the windows are carved the words reading Arcadia Times, indicating it was once a newspaper office. Beside the picture it says Bank of Arcadia -- Arcadia, Kansas. It is now a resident's home in Arcadia.
The refreshment table was spread with a red and white valentine plastic cover. Each guest received a small square valentine box filled with Chocolate hearts and kisses. Red streamers ran the length of the table.

Pastor David Peterson read from Ezekiel 34:23-31 that promised a new life by the coming of Christ both the first time and his future coming. Pass on faith to others. God blesses you to bless others. Two more of my old time friends have died recently, Helen Shankles Palmer, 86, Arcadia High School graduate of 1939, died at Fort Scott Medicalodge.
Mary Wheeler Meier, 90, died in Sunset Manor, Frontenac. Mary and her sister Edna attended AHS but graduated from Pittsburg High School. Their father died when they were both young. Their mother, Fannie Wheeler, lived in Arcadia and Pittsburg and Oskaloosa in the girl's school days. In retirement years Fannie and Mary lived in Liberal and Lamar.
Thanks to the Fort Scott Presbyterian Village for sending me another copy of their monthly news, I found a friend's picture, that of Reba Mason. She was a long time friend to the late Edna Salsbury, distant cousin to Vickie Shead and lived her last years on the Shead farm. That is where I met Reba Mason when she and I were visiting with Ms. Salsbury. It was good to read about Reba's interesting life.
