The Chargers (19-5) recorded three of the four 3-point shots they made on the night in that opening run, the last by Alex Hugo with 3:39 left in the first quarter that made it 13-1.
The Jayhawks (18-6) managed to get the lead down to eight points twice in the second quarter. They scored the first six of the period to get within 20-11 on Meriel Long's basket with 5:54 to go.
Cassie Rockers' basket with 3:55 to go cut the deficit to 23-15 as the 'Hawks finished a 10-3 run in which they allowed Cherryvale just three free throws.
Sara Schwaninger scored to put the Chargers back up by 10, but Rockers cut it to eight once more with 2:52 remaining. But over the rest of the period, Cherryvale outscored Jayhawk-Linn 9-2 to take a 34-19 lead into the locker room.
The 'Hawks were unable to make any significant dent in the lead in the second half as the Chargers kept it in the 17-to-20 point range most of the rest of the night.
Jayhawk-Linn's biggest problem was ball control. They turned the ball over 32 times and Cherryvale scored 30 points off those turnovers. The Chargers committed only 10 turnovers themselves.
Rockers led Jayhawk-Linn with 21 points as she made seven of 12 shots from the field and seven of nine at the free-throw line. Schwaninger led Cherryvale with 21 points and Kelsey Overacker added 10.
The Chargers go on to play top-seeded Southwestern Heights (23-1) in one of Friday's semifinals.
