FSCC baseball off to 2-3 start

Fort Scott Community College's baseball season is off to a 2-3 start after five games. The Greyhounds split at Carl Albert, Okla., Sunday, then were swept at Hesston Tuesday before winning at Crowder (Mo.) Wednesday. All five games were on the road.

In Sunday's first game, Fort Scott High graduate John Leek went three for four as the designated hitter and hit a home run in the Greyhounds' 7-5 win. Cullen Baxter, Jason Houston, and Zach Higgins each had three hits. Baxter drove in three runs.

The 'Hounds lost game two, 8-3. Houston had two hits, including a double.

Tuesday, Hesston swept by scores of 3-2 and 2-0. In the opener, Travis Cruz had three hits and Zach Higgins two. Hesston held Fort Scott to five hits in game two.

The 'Hounds beat Crowder, 9-6, in a single nine-inning game Wednesday after scoring six runs in the top of the fifth. Kian Jost and Tyler Zimmerman each had three hits and two RBI. Cruz, Houston and Brandon Davis each had two hits. Tyler Spear was the winning pitcher with four innings of four-hit, five-strikeout relief.
