Local motorists may have to find a new way around town as two intersections will be closed temporarily beginning Monday, Feb. 16.

Kissick Construction, in conjunction with the City of Fort Scott, will be closing the intersection of First Street and Scott Street as well as the intersection of Wall Street and Main Street for a period of about two weeks.

The closures stem from items on the Punch List for the Downtown Streetscape Project. The Punch List consists of items throughout the entire project which need repair or do not meet satisfaction of the city.

According to Fort Scott Public Works Director Eric Bailey, most of the Punch List has already been completed. He said items which have been resolved included cleaning concrete off the buildings, cleaning the streets and sidewalks, and running speaker wire to the gazebo.

Bailey said the hump on the east side of the intersection of Wall Street and Main Street will be flattened. In addition, the concrete work around the manhole at the intersection of First Street and Scott Street will be repaired.

According to Fort Scott City Manager Joe Turner, the items on the Punch List must be completed before the final payment is submitted by the city.

"(The Punch List) must be done to the city's satisfaction," Turner said.

Bailey said he and Bruce Remsberg, inspector for the project, will go over the Punch List to make sure everything has been completed. If items are not completed to the city's satisfaction, payment will be held until the issues have been resolved.

"We just look to see if the job is done to the design," Bailey said.

Once the items on the Punch List have been completed to the satisfaction of the city and the final payment is submitted, a one-year performance bond will begin. This performance bond will insure the project for one year from completion if any part fails. If a failure occurs, it will be the responsibility of the contractor to make the necessary repairs.
