Greyhounds post sweep of KCK; men break skid

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Fort Scott Community College's men and women swept Kansas City Kansas here Saturday in Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division play.

The men broke a six-game losing streak, beating KCK 54-52 in overtime. The women won for the fifth time in their last six games, 68-55.

In a low-scoring game to say the least, Fort Scott's men led 19-15 at halftime. The Greyhounds (2-6 East, 8-12 overall) took just 44 field-goal attempts in the game, making 19.

Kurklin Bohanon and Darrell Blanton each scored 19 points to lead the 'Hounds, who moved into a three-way tie for eighth place with KCK (2-6, 6-14) and Labette.

With 10 regular-season games remaining, Fort Scott's men have already matched last season's victory total.

Leondra Doomes-Stephens scored 32 points and Valencia Kelly added 22 for Fort Scott's women, who also outrebounded Kansas City 51-46.

Monet Fernandes had a double-double as she scored 10 points and led the 'Hounds (5-3, 12-8) with 11 rebounds.

Both Fort Scott teams host Highland Wednesday night in a Jayhawk Conference doubleheader at Arnold Arena. Women's play tips off at 5 p.m. with the men scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
