ONLINE FIRST: Adams to seek second term with city commission

Friday, January 2, 2009

Commissioner Jim Adams is tossing his hat in the ring. Adams announced Friday he will run for a second term with the Fort Scott City Commission.

Adams, who is coming off a two-year term serving on the commission, said he was undecided whether to run or not until this past weekend when he talked it over with friends.

"I got a lot of encouragement," Adams said.

Also adding to the decision to return was a desire to follow up on unfinished goals from his first term.

"Two years didn't give me enough time," Adams said.

The goals which Adams wants to follow through with include the street program and codes enforcement. Adams said he also wants to make sure the city spends money as efficiently as possible.

"We have a lot of progress going on and I want to see it continue, that is my motivation," Adams said.

Candidates can now file to run for the city commission. The deadline for filing is set for noon, Jan. 27. Packets can be obtained at the city clerk's office at City Hall. For more information, contact Diane Clay at dclay@fscity.org or call (620) 223-0550.
