Delbert Lowell Smith, age 78, a resident of Pittsburg, Kan., died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Pittsburg.

He was born Jan. 6, 1930, in Hennessey, Okla., the son of Arthur Claude Smith and Allie Belle Armstrong Smith. Delbert married Cathern Ward in May of 1951. They were later divorced. Mr. Smith had worked as a self-employed truck driver and farmer. He enjoyed working with his cattle and collecting antique tractors.

Survivors include a son, Raymond Smith and friend, Tawnja, of Bronaugh, Mo.; two daughters, Sue Cannon and husband, Carlos, Edwardsville, Kan. and Janet Kovacic and husband, Ernest, Stark, Kan. Also surviving are two sisters, Lois Catron and husband, Delbert, Greenville, Ill. and Alice Andis, Yukon, Okla.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Donald Smith.

Pastor Sandy Stallings will conduct funeral services at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel.

Burial will follow in the Lone Elm Cemetery, Lone Elm, Kansas.
