Saturday, December 13, 2008
ALTAMONT, Kan. -- Nothing clicked for Fort Scott High's boys here Friday night as the Tigers managed only 33-percent shooting from the floor while host Labette County shot 57 percent from the field as the Grizzlies won a Southeast Kansas League contest, 57-43, at Harrison Gymnasium.

Labette County (2-0 SEK and overall) held a 14-6 lead after one period of play as Brannon Green scored eight of his 14 points in the period. By halftime, after Matheau Smith scored back-to-back hoops going into the locker room, the Tigers trailed 30-15.

Jordan Lambkins scored 11 of his team-high 15 points in the third period. The Grizzlies largest lead was 24 points at 45-21.

The Tigers (1-1, 2-3) scored consecutive field goals only once in the first three quarters.

Alex Barner was the only Tiger in double figures as he finished with 16 points. He and Griffin Knopp each had six rebounds. Smith scored 10 points to aid the Grizzlies.

Fort Scott made only 16 of its 48 field-goal attempts, going three of 14 from three-point range, while also making only eight of 16 free throws. LCHS converted 27 of 47 chances from the field and also won the battle of the boards, 28-25.

Fort Scott's junior varsity team lost to Labette County, 44-43. The JV plays two games in its home tournament today.

Tiger freshmen lost to LCHS, 41-40. No details were available from that game. On Tuesday night, the freshmen beat Pittsburg, 66-50, with Cameron Woodring scoring 20 points, Brandon Baker 16, Matt Wright 13 and Luke Brown 10.

All levels of FSHS basketball will host two games this week. Independence is the guest on Tuesday while Columbus visits in the last game before the holiday break Friday night. Both games count in league play for the varsity.
