She was born Sept. 22, 1929 in Blue Mound, Kan., the daughter of Charley and Ruth Scott Ferguson.
She was a graduate of Blue Mound High School. She married A.L. "Whitey" Schasteen Jr. May 1, 1948. He preceded her in death on April 10, 2007.
Elaine worked as a waitress and also cooked for the USD No. 346 at Mound City. She was a member of the American Legion Auxilary Hewitt-New Post of Mound City.
She was preceded in death also by her parents. Survivors include one son, Wayne Schasteen and Diana of Fort Scott, Kan.; one daughter, Meredith Ison and Marty of Mound City, Kan.; one brother, Jack Ferguson of Pleasanton, Kan.; four grandchildren; Matt Ison and Jennie, Marnie Ison, Bobby Daughterty and Wendy Collier and Ryan and four great grandchildren; Jack, Gracie, Peyton and Brynn.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 26 at Fort Scott National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kan.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City.
