Mildred "Edith" LaFort, 93, of Kansas City, Kan., formerly of Arcadia and Arma died at 6:35 p.m., Friday, October 24, 2008, at the Medicalodge Post Acute Care Center at Kansas City, Kan.
Mrs. LaFort was born August 10, 1915 at Breezy Hill, Kan., the daughter of Karl and Bertha Kruder Murn. Edith was a homemaker and also worked in payroll - audit at Western Insurance, Fort Scott. She was raised in the Arma area and graduated from Arma High School in 1934. She lived in Arcadia prior to moving to Arma in 1973 and later moved to Kansas City, Kan.
Edith married Hubert K. LaFort on July 3, 1937 at Kansas City, Mo. Mr. LaFort preceded her in death December 16, 1995. Edith was a member of the Arma United Methodist Church and a 50 year member of the Eastern Star at Garland. Survivors include a daughter, Karol Smith and her husband Bernie of Kansas City, Kan., one grandchild, and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Caroline Kennett and Christine Davidson, and one brother William K. Murn.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma. Burial will be at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to service time Tuesday, at the Bedene Chapel at Arma. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E.
