Betty Jean Bernhardt, 82, formerly of Nevada, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at the Rehab Center of Raymore, Raymore, Mo., following a brief illness. She was born Aug. 28, 1926, in Pittsburg, Kan., to Charles Franklin Witter and Ova Irene Fennimore Witter. She married W. R. Bernhardt in 1946 in Girard, Kan. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Betty was born in Pittsburg and came to Nevada as a child. She graduated from Nevada High School in 1944. She was a longtime member of the BPOE Does and active in PTA. She worked for a time at Mattingly's in Nevada as well as managing the books for her husband's business.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda LaGuire and her husband John, Lee's Summit, Mo.; two granddaughters, Kathlene Kane and her husband Jay, Independence, Mo., and Johnna Davis and her husband Terry, Lee's Summit, Mo., and two great-grandchildren, Nathan Davis and Laura Davis both of Lee's Summit, Mo.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at Newton Burial Park, Nevada, with John Nichols officiating. Friends may call now and until 1:30 p.m. on Monday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
Memorials may be given to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
