Fort Scott Community College's volleyball team was swept once again Wednesday night, this time by Independence in Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division play.

The visiting Pirates took 25-15, 25-11 and 25-11 wins. Fort Scott (0-7 East, 0-23 overall) dropped its 28th straight match. The Greyhounds have been swept in every one of those matches.

Quitting, however, does not appear to be in the Greyhound vocabulary. It would have been easy for them to do so in the third game after Independence (3-5, 12-10) rolled out to an 11-0 lead. However, Beth Brittain got the ball to the floor with a spike and Fort Scott managed to play somewhat evenly the rest of the match.

The 'Hounds were fighting hard in the first game. They held a 7-6 lead after a 5-0 run and had one-point leads three more times before Indy took a 14-11 lead. Fort Scott was able to rally, tying it at 14-14 on Crystal Colvin's ace. But the Pirates capitalized on an error and finished strong.

The 'Hounds were also within striking distance early in the second game before Indy used a 12-1 run to take a 20-7 lead.

Brittain led the Greyhounds with six kills and four blocks. Adrienne Dodge -- who had family and old high school classmates rooting for her -- dished 11 assists. Colvin, Dodge and Ashley Cavin each served an ace for Fort Scott.
