Just two days after Jeff Davis' good bye party, the City of Fort Scott announced that Human Resource Director Robert Johnson will be the interim Director of the Police and Fire Department.

This is not Johnson's first time in this position. In fact this is Johnson's fourth stint during his 15 years with the City of Fort Scott.

"He was a good fit," said Fort Scott City Manager, Joe Turner.

Adding to his experience, Johnson has also been the lieutenant of the police reserve since 1995.

"When you have a track record, you step up and do what the boss asks you to," said Johnson.

Johnson will begin as the interim director on Monday. He is confident that the departments will continue to maintain the same level of performance that was established by Davis. Johnson said that because of the work that Davis put into the departments that he does not see as many of the challenges that he faced in this three previous terms in the position.

"I feel good about it, I think we have some good really good leadership and supervisory people in both departments," said Davis. "I'm excited about this time. I think we're in great shape."

The city will be dividing the position into two positions, one as the Chief of Police and the other as the Fire Chief. The search has already begun to fill these positions. According to Joe Turner the search should not take long. The applications are due by October 17.
