KDWP to host hunter safety courses

Thursday, September 11, 2008

As hunting season draws near, young hunting enthusiasts in the area will have the chance to participate in upcoming education courses sponsored by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks.

The three-day course tests each student's ability to master rules and regulations regarding safe hunting practices. Hunting enthusiasts who are at least 11 years of age may participate in the course, which consists of classroom and field work, and a final written and practical examination on proper gun handling.

Upcoming Fort Scott classes and field tests will take place from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, and Thursday, Oct. 9, at the National Guard Armory, 2301 S. Horton St., and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 11, at Gunn Park, 1010 Park Ave.

Uniontown courses will be offered from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, and Thursday, Nov. 20, in the Uniontown Junior Senior High School commons area, 601 Fifth St., and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 22, in the UJSHS agriculture shop.
