Fort Scott doubles team shows improvement

Saturday, September 6, 2008

PARSONS, Kan. -- Fort Scott High School's tennis team only had a doubles entry here Thursday as the Tigers took part in the Labette County High School Invitational.

Taylor Bailey and Lauren Caulfield filled the No. 1 doubles slot but were 0-4 on the day. They had a pair of 8-4 losses, one to Eunae Abbuehl/Bethany Ely of Chanute and the other to Jordy Barrett/Kaley Shockey of Coffeyville. They also fell to Pittsburg's Shelly Trimble/Sammy Highfield, 8-1, and Labette County's Kayla Smith/Katie Anderson, 8-0.

"We showed a little progress in yesterday's matches," Fort Scott head coach Lynn Barr said. "We still have to play much more consistently and eliminate a lot of our unforced errors. The girls struggled some with some basic doubles tactics that we must be able to execute. We did do a few more things right yesterday and continued to play hard. It's important that we keep trying to get better with each match."

The Tiger junior varsity will play here Tuesday, an event which will also be hosted by Labette County. The varsity team is scheduled to play Thursday at Independence.
