At 12:25 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24, in approximately the 600 block of Wall Street, Fort Scott Police attempted to stop a speeding Ford F-150 pick-up truck being driven by Matthew LaPiere, Fort Scott.
According to the Fort Scott Police Department, LaPiere, who was traveling east-bound, failed to pull his vehicle to a stop. He then began to travel North-bound on Caldwell and continued north on Ivy. As the police continued pursuit, LaPiere traveled down a gravel path, which took him toward the railroad tracks.
At this point, FSPD said, LaPiere left the road and began traveling north on the railroad tracks. After losing sight of the vehicle, FSPD alerted Burlington Northern Railroad of the vehicle driving down the tracks, so the railroad company could caution on-coming trains.
A short time later, a Bourbon County Sheriff Deputy made contact with and apprehended the suspect, who was sitting in his vehicle. According to the sheriff's office, LaPiere was then taken into the custody of Fort Scott Police, who placed him under arrest.
According to the Regional Correctional Center arrest report, LaPiere was charged with fleeing to elude, reckless driving, DUI and driving while suspended. He was released at 2:58 a.m. Sunday on a $2,750 bond.

LITTLE MATT! ALL GROWN UP!
I appreciate the coverage and the photo. Those who accused the paper of only publishing Mr. Grant's photo because of his color should take note!
Tribune, THANK YOU, for yet another good story with a "mug" shot!
Good Work, and can't wait to see the next.
Thank you Fort Scott Tribune for now including photos of those that are arrested. Maybe this will become an added deterrent for those that wish to live this kind of life style in our community.
Good job to the police officers and sheriffs deputy for working together and getting results.
