Autumn Leaves Senior Citizens meeting

Autumn Leaves Senior Citizens met in their cottage on the second Monday, August 11, with nine present for the dinner and business meeting. Jim Kunsler, neighbor to Jerry Coonrod was first time guest. Jack Payne gave the blessing. Lord's Prayer was spoken by all after pledge to the flag.

Following the regular business meeting, Carole Garrison read an interesting article about Arthritis. Mary Lee and Jack Payne had clever readings about a 6 year old and Sunday Church. Enoch of the Bible was the subject of President Lilly Coonrod's article. Due to the busy season, the men, as well as our faithful attendee, Bob Cavin, who enjoyed the dinner had to get back to their working projects, so the ladies including Helen Sisney, and Mary V. Shead decided to fore-go the Bingo games until the September 8 meeting when more can be there. All seniors in and around Arcadia are invited to join the group for dinner and fellowship.

To celebrate the opening of Immigrant Park and the Miners Memorial at the open-air Prichett Pavilion at Second and Broadway in Pittsburg, a show will run between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., on Saturday, August 30. Included in the program will be original songs about our area's coal mining heritage by Holly Reed of Arcadia.

On a recent Sunday, diners Mae Watt, Carole Garrison with Lou and Betty Dehn enjoyed dinner at the buffet near Home Depot, They shopped at Walmart and attended the Gospel Sing in Arma by led by Dalton James Windsor on Washington Street. Betty and Mae were happy to meet Windsor's family and hear him sing.

Charity and Sam Jackson, Mark and Haley Shead with Katy and a friend Jonathan from an Alaskan College were dinner guests on the Shead farm on Thursday evening.

Brent and Christa Zeller announce the birth of their baby girl, Miley Ann Zeller on July 23, 2008 in Warenburg, MO. Hospital. The baby's sister is Jillian Sky Crooks and brother is Brent Allen Zeller Jr. Grandparents are Lou and Betty Dehn of Arcadia.

A pre-school adventure at the Farlington Lake was held by Christie and Wayne Parrish when they took their family Jenny and Ryan with their children, Allyson, Kadin and Karter Dugan on the weekend of August 16. They rented a cabin and enjoyed fishing, swimming and relaxing.

In the "Other Years Column, Fort Scott Tribune dated 1958 -- 50 years ago was listed a former Arcadian, Charles Dobbins as among the 110 graduates for a Master's degree from KSTC, Pittsburg. His friends in Arcadia knew him as Bill Dobbins, a teacher in sixth grade class in Arcadia Elementary School. He now resides in Frontenac, Kan.

In the 25 years ago column, l983, Floyd Crites of Arcadia was named as a winner of a $500 Beef Certificate awarded by Kansas Cow Belles during the Bourbon County Fair. Floyd is a AHS graduate and still lives RR, Arcadia and is often seen in Arcadia attending dinners held in Community Center.

Kim Domer, Arcadia, is the Fort Scott manager of Curves Smart System. They will conduct Open House from 5-7 p.m., on September 4-5 to celebrate the Centers 4th Anniversary in Fort Scott. They are located 524 Lowman St. For more information call the center (620) 223-2977.

For several weeks, on Monday evenings, Gary Peterson and Herman Tyler have been attending the Pickin' and Grinnin' music show held in Pitcher, Okla.

Tuesday last week, Gary Goloday came from Joplin to spend the day with his Mother, Carole Garrison in Arcadia.

Charles Townsend formerly of Fort Scott, is sixth grade teacher in a Private Presbyterian School in Atlanta, Ga. He is the son of Alice Townsend, Fort Scott. Alice, a graduate of AHS, comes to Arcadia most Tuesdays to join the quilters in the Christian Church Bungalow and often visits in the home of Wanda Norris, a former quilter.

The young people in Arcadia Christian church on August 24 were Cheyenne Mellon, Alyssa Feltner, Courtney Allen, Angela Casey, Skye Montanye, Rebecca Bridgewater, AAron Hemick. Also Kennyn Baldwin who assisted in passing out the bulletins at church time.

The song was dedicated to Bill and Karen Watt for their 30th wedding anniversary and for the birthdays of Douglas Watt and Alex Ralston.

Pastor David Peterson sermon title was Godly Servants taken from the Book of Jame 4. His good advice is God is in Control. Put God first in your lives. If there is trouble in your church, confront the troublemaker. Humility is the highest trait one can have -- it will help all draw closer to God.

It was announced Ralph and Cindy Shead will be present the first Sunday in September to tell of the works of LATM -- Learning and Teaching Ministry. This work is carried on by former missionaries now living in the Joplin, Mo. area. November 2, special guests will be a group from Campus Christians of PSU

Judy Rawlings and Mary V. Shead went to Liberal, Mo., n Thursday afternoon for a late celebration of Ruth Holland's recent birthday. Louise Holland served Chocolate Cake and Sprite to neighbor Katherine Farmer and Mary V. and Ruth while Judy took care of business.

Both Ruth and Katherine are former Arcadians, so there was much to reminisce about. Katherine took the ladies to her newly decorated apartment for a tour. Judy is also a former Arcadian, so she, too, enjoyed the time of fellowship.
