A public hearing date was set at Tuesday night's city commission meeting to determine the future of a structure and an accessory structure in Fort Scott.

The house located at 750 S. Judson Street has been deemed unsafe due to leaking roof, according to city officials. This leakage may have caused considerable damage to the interior of the structure. The owner of the home has been working to repair the damage but has not made much progress, according to reports by the commission. Area residents have made complaints on the structure causing the city to take action.

Members at the hearing will also discuss the accessory structure located at 308 Ford. This structure is reported to be in danger of collapse and causing a major safety hazard. The roof is falling in which is causing the walls to collapse. Foliage has begun to grow inside the structure causing damage at a rapid rate.

The purpose of the hearing is to hear evidence given by the Fire Chief as well as hear from the owners of the structures and any other persons having interest in them. From this hearing the commission will then decided if the buildings can be repaired or if they shall be demolished.

The public hearing is slated for Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 6:15p.m. in the Commissioner's Room of City Hall.

I am so glad this is being taken care of but there are so many more that need to follow..
