Myrtle M. Smith, age 81, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Monday, August 11, 2008, at the St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo. She was born November 20, 1926, in Radley, Kan., the daughter of Harry Baker and Clara Evans Baker. She married Jewell LeRoy Smith on June 22, 1946, at Folkston, Ga. He preceded her in death on May 7, 1995. She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church, the Olive Chapter No. 13 Order of Eastern Star, the Regal Court of the Amaranth, and a past member of the Fidelis Deo Shrine No. 6 White Shrine of Jerusalem. Myrtle had also served as Mother Advisor of the International Order of Rainbow Girls.

Survivors include two sons, Jewell Smith, Jr., and wife, Connie, Girard, Kan., and Harry Smith and wife, Alberta, Independence, Kan.; two daughters, Nancy Barr and husband, Delbert, Fort Scott, Kansas, and Amanda Smith, Arma, Kansas.

Also surviving is a sister, Alice Reeder, Sparks, Nevada; two half-sisters, Opal Leigh, Girard, Kan., and Ruby Blair, Leawood, Kan.; seven grandchildren, three step granddaughters, one great-granddaughter and five step great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Jewell Marshall; a half-sister, Mabel White and two half-brothers, Sammy Roper and Ronnie Baker.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 14, 2008, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel Eastern Star services will be provided by the Olive Chapter No. 13. Burial will follow in the U. S. National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, August 14, 2008, at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
