Eighth in a row for 'Canes

Monday, July 28, 2008

COFFEYVILLE -- The Fort Scott Hurricanes swimming team won its eighth consecutive Southeast Kansas Swimmig League post-season meet here Saturday.

According to information sent to the Tribune Sunday, Fort Scott beat out Chanute by about 300 points. The Chanute club had a lot of younger swimmers and had a 200-point lead up until the time the 11- and 12-year-olds began their races.

There was a long wait for the point totals to be tallied before the Hurricanes knew the outcome was official.

In addition to the eight post-season titles, the Hurricanes have not lost a dual in eight years. Many of the swimmers on the team (The youngest age group is 6-and-under) weren't born yet when this string began.

The post-season banquet will be held Wednesday night at Buck Run Community Center, 735 Scott Ave.

Also in the correspondence received, it was revealed that Fort Scott will be the host for the league championship meet following the 2009 season.

The Tribune hopes to provide more information when it becomes available.
