Emporia was in the driver's seat going into the morning as it had beaten Cimarron River 6-3 in Sunday's winners' bracket final and moved straight into this game without a loss in the tournament. The Rattlers, meanwhile, had to stew on the loss for a while before holding off the Haysville Dirtbags in Sunday's elimination bracket final for a 3-2 win.
(For reference, all games at this level are six innings.)

Cimarron River threatened first and scored first. In the top of the first inning, the Rattlers had two runners on base with just one out. But Emporia pitcher Tate Demler snagged a line drive out of the air and caught the baserunner off second for an inning-ending double play.
In the second, Rattler first baseman Kaiden Long reached base on an error. Anthony Vasquez followed up with a single to right. After a double steal, Long scored on a fielders' choice. Vasquez, who moved to third, tried to score on a passed ball. But hustle from catcher Bryce Baumwart and Demler on a passed ball instead resulted in an inning-ending out.
Emporia tied it in the bottom of the third. Demler singled up the middle with two outs. Baumwart followed with another hit and Nick Kirmer drew a bases-loading walk. Baumgardner then came up and drove Demler home to tie it at 1-1.
Cimarron River scored three times in the top of the fifth inning. Jared Hasik led off with a double to left and moved to third on a passed ball. Cole Hinkle walked, then stole second. Timothy Fitzgerald came up and tripled both runners home. Stevie Lira plated Fitzgerald with a ground out, putting the Rattlers up 4-1.
Kirmer singled home Baumwart in the bottom of the fifth to bring Emporia within one run. Baumwart, who had struggled in his first inning of pitching duty in the fifth, then got the Rattlers in order in the sixth.
Trent Burd led off the bottom half of that inning and was hit by a pitch. Jarod Mercer followed up with a triple to left field that brought Burd home. An errant throw back to the infield allowed Mercer to score the tying run.
The Rattlers changed pitchers. With the bases empty and nobody out, Demler singled up the middle and eventually moved to second on a passed ball. But Hasik, the new pitcher, struck out his first two batters. Baumgardner responded to the situation with a double to the deepest part of the outfield that brought Demler home.
With that hit, Baumgardner, who was two for two at the plate, was named the game's Most Valuable Player. Demler had three hits for Emporia.
Hasik had two hits for Cimarron River. Fitzgerald was named his team's MVP after he pitched five-plus innings, walking two and striking out four.
WOW Awards -- handed out to players on each team who make outstanding plays -- went to Lira and Baumwart.
