Fort Scott's team lost its first game Saturday but later beat Coffeyville to remain alive in the Cal Ripken Baseball Kansas State 10-year-old Tournament at Don Hewett Field.

Cimarron River, which would go on to finish second in the tournament, defeated Fort Scott in a winners' bracket semifinal game in the afternoon, 12-2.

But Fort Scott avoided elimination by beating Coffeyville, 7-3, in the final game of the night.

Six games in all were played Saturday, starting with a pair of elimination games.

Game 6: Coffeyville 12, Lyons 7.

A close game at first, Coffeyville finally took the lead for the first time with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to go ahead 7-6. Lyons tied it in the top of the fifth but Coffeyville put together a five-run fifth.

Five of Coffeyville's eight hits went for extra bases, including a triple and an inside-the-park home run by Corey Taylor, who also scored twice.

Dalton Lanning had three hits for Coffeyville. Riley Kirkhart and Drake Link each scored twice for Lyons, which had only three hits.

Lyons became the first team eliminated from the tournament.

Game 7: SPIAA 6, Ottawa 8.

In a high-scoring affair, SPIAA held off Ottawa after the latter scored twice in the top of the sixth inning.

Kaden Stein had two hits for SPIAA. Clayton Evans and Matt Percy had two each for Ottawa, which was eliminated from the tournament.

Game 8: Emporia 2, Haysville 1.

The game was scoreless through 4 1/2 innings. Emporia got on the board first in the bottom of the fifth when Bryce Baumwart's fielder choice gave Jared Mercer the chance to score from third.

Haysville squared things up in the top of the sixth. Pinch-hitter Benton led off with a walk, then moved to second on a wild pitch. He scored on Trenton Allen's flair single to right field.

Ryan Mejia led off Emporia's half of the sixth with a flair to short left field. Josiah Duncan reached on an error and Mejia came around to score as Haysville had trouble retrieving the ball.

Trent Demler and Baumwart combined to hold Haysville to one hit. Neither of them walked anyone. Demler struck out five over the first three innings while Baumwart finished with three K's.

Game 9: Cimarron River 12, Fort Scott 2.

Cimarron River kept the pressure on Fort Scott's defense throughout the game. Even in the inning in which the Rattlers didn't score, they got three runners on base with two out.

Cimarron River scored twice in the top of the first. Fort Scott got on the board in the bottom half when Jeremy Smith's bases-loaded single plated Chase Brown.

The Rattlers held a 5-1 lead after 2 1/2 innings. Fort Scott scored its other run in the bottom of the third when Brown -- who was hit by a pitch leading off the inning -- scored from third on a wild pitch.

Jacob DeLaTorre had Fort Scott's only other hit. Stevie Lira held the tourney hosts to two hits and four walks while striking out nine.

Most Valuable Player and WOW Awards were handed out after every game of the tournament. Brown was Fort Scott's MVP in this game while DeLaTorre won the WOW Award, handed out for an outstanding play.

Lira was the MVP for Cimarron River while Fitzgerald won the WOW Award.

Game 10: Haysville 12, SPIAA 3.

Haysville scored 10 runs over the first two innings and coasted from there as its defense didn't commit an error.

The Dirtbags only needed seven hits to win and no one had more than one. Matthew Johnson scored three runs while Allen and Seth Strohm each scored twice.

Dakota Rodd didn't allow a hit as he pitched the last three innings. He gave up only two walks while striking out five.

Game 10 was played before Game Nine so that the team that lost Game Eight wouldn't have to play back-to-back.

Game 9: Fort Scott 7, Coffeyville 3.

Fort Scott scored seven runs over the first two innings while Jacob DeLaTorre struck out 11 Redbirds.

Fort Scott needed only one hit to score three runs in the first inning. Brown and DeLaTorre drew consecutive one-out walks. Dalton Barnes drove in Brown with a single with DeLaTorre moving to third. He'd score when Smith lifted a sacrifice fly to center.

Barnes added the third run when he scored as Jordan Phillips reached on an error.

Gavin Cole drew a walk to lead off the fourth, then stole second. Jacob Bradbury drew a one-out walk and then both runners executed a double steal. Brown walked to load the bases for DeLaTorre, who singled in Cole and Bradbury.

Barnes reached on an error, which loaded the bases again. Phillips singled to right, plating Brown and DeLaTorre to make it 7-0.

McCune, son of former Fort Scott Community College head baseball coach Ryan McCune, had two hits for the Redbirds.

DeLaTorre was Fort Scott's Most Valuable Player in this game. Hershey won that honor for Coffeyville for his defensive work. Tourtillott was the WOW winner for Fort Scott while Nick Becker won it for Coffeyville.
