Memorial service for Griffith Richard Hughes, age 91 of Chickasha, Okla., will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, in the First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Barbara Hunt will officiate.
Griffith Richard Hughes, son of William G. Hughes and Mamie A. Gillfilin Hughes, was born on November 10, 1916, in Fort Scott, Kan. He died on Monday, June 23, 2008 in Chickasha.
He married Bettye Rushing on June 8, 1963 in Fort Scott, Kan.
He graduated from high school in Fort Scott and later graduated from Fort Scott Community College and Kansas State University. He owned a dairy farm along with his father until he returned to college. He then became employed at Citizens National Bank in Fort Scott, Kan.
He moved to Chickasha, Okla., with his family in 1969 where he was employed at First National Bank as a loan officer. He retired after 20 years of service.
He was a lifelong Presbyterian and was a member and elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Chickasha. He was past member of the Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He also served on numerous boards in Chickasha including the Red Cross and Opportunity Workshop.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, one sister, and one son.
Survivors include: his wife, Bettye Hughes of Chickasha, his daughter and son-in-law; Jenifer and Robert Adams, Jr. of Fulton, Mo., two grandsons; Justin and John Adams of Fulton, Mo. and daughter Nancy Hughes of Yukon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the USAO Foundation or the First Presbyterian Church.
Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home, Chickasha.
