Friday, June 6, 2008

Four Fort Scott High School baseball players, all seniors, recently earned honors from Southeast Kansas League coaches.

Outfielder Alex Bowman and shortstop/pitcher John Leek were selected to the All-Southeast Kansas League First Team while catcher Andre Davis and utility player Blake Nelson were chosen to the Second Team.

League champion Pittsburg, which lost in the first round of the Class 5A State Tournament, had four players named to the First Team: seniors Shane Drenick, Zach Richardson and Brandon Speer and junior Tanner Smith. Coffeyville, the runner-up, saw three seniors tabbed: Drew Davis, Brad Haymaker and Trent King.

Also chosen were Independence senior Cole Pasternak and junior Grant Webster; Parsons senior Tyler Gilley and junior Brett Cares; Labette County senior Quentin Ybarra; Iola junior Drew Mueller; Columbus junior Justin Pillar; and Chanute junior Craig Gilmore.

Most of the league teams had two players chosen to the Second Team, including Fort Scott. Other players chosen were Pittsburg senior Austin Ross and junior Zac White; Coffeyville senior Donald Wright and junior Skylar Wright; Independence senior Dan Gross and junior Ryan Dierks; Parsons senior Rocky Blackburn and junior Donte Flores; Labette County seniors Jacob Bierbrodt and Jacob Cunningham; Iola junior Derrek McKarnin; and Columbus senior Corbin Stanley.
