Six members of Fort Scott Community College's baseball team received honors recently from the Jayhawk Conference. They were awarded with places in the All-Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division team.

First Team honors went to third baseman Trevor Geist, outfielder Zach Caldwell and second baseman Jason Houston. All three were also named to the All-Region VI team, which featured the best players in both divisions of the conference.

There was a tie in the voting for All-East resulting in Geist sharing his honor with Cowley's Tom O'Gorman. However, Geist was listed alone on the Region VI list.

Pitcher Dan Huff was named to the Second Team while outfielder Brandt Barnes and pitcher Ryan Daniel were put on the Honorable Mention list.

Dave Burroughs of Eastern Division champion Cowley was named the Coach of the Year. Johnson County shortstop was the unanimous choice as the Most Valuable Player. He was also named Region VI Defensive Player of the Year. Allen County shortstop Dillon Hazlett was named the Freshman of the Year.

NOTES -- Kansas City Kansas stunned Cowley in the losers' bracket final of the Region VI Tournament at Wichita Tuesday night, then went right back out and beat Johnson County in the first championship game. That forced a winner-take-all game Wednesday night between Johnson and KCK, which Johnson County won 6-2. The Cavaliers (41-16) advance to the Junior College World Series at Grand Junction, Colo., the weekend of May 30....
