Wednesday, May 7, 2008

Seedings were announced Wednesday for Regional baseball and softball tournaments which are slated to begin Monday throughout the area.

Fort Scott High School baseball is the No. 3 seed in the Chanute Class 4A Regional. All the games in the tournament will be played in Chanute with the first day's play split between CHS' Katy Park and Neosho County Community College's Hudson Field.

The Tigers (9-8) will play at 2 p.m. Monday against No. 6 Independence (7-9) at Hudson Field. If they win, they will play the winner of the Parsons-Chanute game in the second semifinal at 4:30 Wednesday. The championship game will be played at 7 p.m.

Fort Scott's softball team (14-4) is the No. 3 seed of the Girard Class 4A Regional behind two undefeated teams: No. 1 Girard (18-0) and No. 2 Columbus (16-0), who play each other in the final doubleheader of the regular season Friday afternoon.

First-round games will be played on the higher seed's home field, which means the Tigers will host No. 6 Independence (7-9) at 4:30 Monday at Don Hewett Field. If they won, they will play in the second semifinal Wednesday at 4:45 in Girard. The championship game will follow at about 6:30.

Every game of the Class 3A Central Heights Softball Regional will be played in Richmond. Jayhawk-Linn's team, the No. 5 seed, will play Central Heights at 3 p.m. Monday. Semifinals and finals will be held Tuesday.

Jayhawk-Linn's baseball team will also be in a Regional at Central Heights but that schedule was not yet available.

Uniontown's baseball team will play in the Pittsburg Colgan Class 2-1A Regional. As the No. 3 seed, they will host a first-round game at 4:30 Monday against Northeast-Arma at Dawson Field in Bronson.

The Yates Center Class 2-1A Softball Regional has only five teams with No. 3 Uniontown receiving one of the byes. They will play No. 2 Yates Center Tuesday at 4:45 in the second semifinal.
