Senior dance brings new guests

Wednesday, May 7, 2008

We had another good attendance at the senior dance at Buck Run Community Center Monday night. The band was in good shape, however, our horn player, Clarence Nation, says he is having more trouble getting around each day and that his legs just won't work anymore. He does very well getting in and out of his car and coming in on his cart. He uses a cane and also a chair on the stage to get to his place. He does a good job playing and has a book full of songs to play.

We had new guests tonight, Willa Dean Creager and Dale and Lanette Silvey from Garnett. They had heard of our dance on the internet and they loved to do the line dance, which we did several times.

Velda and Wes Coleman were called to the front stage and introduced. They celebrated their 51 wedding anniversary Sunday, May 4. Alva McNeely sang the "Anniversary Song" to them. They were presented a decorated anniversary cake and pictures were taken. A hand of welcome was given to them and everyone enjoyed dancing with them.

A get well card was signed for Lawrence Bowyer, who is in a rest home at Arma. He has been failing for several months now. He and his wife, Joe Helen, were very good dancers and missed very few dances. Their home is in north Pittsburg.

There will be a dance at Cadmus, Friday night.

Marmaton Valley Fiddlers Pickers and Singers will have their monthly meeting next Sunday at the senior center on North Main Street. They start at 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend and join in with the musicians if they care to. We always have a special guest or two in the afternoon.
